Professor Vicente Royuela from the University of Barcelona’s Department of Applied Economics presented key insights from the MOBI-TWIN project funded by the European Union that investigates how the twin transition (green and digital) is reshaping mobility patterns across Europe. His presentation highlighted how factors like greenhouse gas emissions, high-tech employment, and regional attractiveness influence both short- and long-term student flows.

The MOBI-TWIN project uses advanced data modeling to analyze Erasmus+ student mobility records between 2014 and 2020, offering unique perspectives on how regions can enhance their appeal while fostering sustainable growth. Royuela emphasized the importance of understanding the interplay between environmental priorities and educational choices, arguing that universities have a critical role in guiding students toward more eco-responsible mobility decisions.
