Groningen is an interesting case study to be investigated for spatial mobility, as during the recent years the population of the province has experienced huge differences between the city and municipalities in the eastern part of the province in terms of population changes. Moreover, Groningen hosts two large universities indicating the need to provide the necessary conditions to keep its population due to changing life events.
The province of Groningen is a region with a varied socio-economic geography, ranging from places ‘left behind’ to a core regional capital with a relatively affluent peri-urban region surrounding it. MOBI-TWIN will identify the way the Twin Transition will affect the regional migration patterns and dynamics between the more peripheral (including left-behind) areas in the province, the region immediately surrounding the core city, and the city itself.
